Bungie now independant developer

It’s true, Bungie is no longer owned by Microsoft. On October 5th 2007, Bungie announced it was becoming an independant, privately owned developer. Microsoft and Bungie are partners now, in a way. Bungie LLC can still, and probably has to develop the Halo series, but what they have done is earned themselves some freedom. They can expand and make their own games now. Good for them!

Sonic joins Brawl, Release date officially changed

Are you familiar with the ‘good news, bad news’ paradigm? Nintendo has announced the addition of Sonic the Hedgehog as a playable character in Smash Bros Brawl. That’s a character roster of twenty-two characters and counting. Also, however, has been announced the official release date movement of Brawl to February 10 2008 in North America. Bummer. But hey, Sonic’s in Brawl! Check out the video below.

Prince of Persia Movie

The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time film is indeed in development. Even better, Jerry Bruckheimer is behind it. Will it bomb, like many video game adaptions before it? Well, I hope not. In any case it’s something for us videogamers to look forward to, and I thought I’d share that.

Smash Bros. Brawl Characters

There are tons of rumors concerning which characters will appear in the next Smash Bros. game for Wii, which is to be released this December. I’m really excited about this. I just thought it was important for everyone to know that. Anyway, so far there are twenty characters Sakurai has reported will be in the game for sure. Most of the fighters from the last couple games are appearing, including:

Mario, Link, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Samus, Zelda, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, and believe it or not, the Ice Climbers.

The new entries are: Pit (from Kid Icarus), Wario (WarioWare), Ike (Fire Emblem), Pokemon Trainer (Pokemon), Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong games), Meta Knight (the Kirby games), Snake (Metal Gear Solid), and Lucas, from the Japanese release, Mother 3. It looks like Lucas will be replacing Ness.

It’s been reported that Eija Aonuma, Director of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, stated that his designers had worked on the designs for Link, Sheik, and Ganondorf, as entries for Brawl. If this is true, then that’s probably two more characters: Sheik and Ganondorf, although it’s hard to tell whether Sheik and Zelda will be the same character or separate this time around.

Besides the above information, there are a few other rumors that I find are likely to be true. Many have said that Ridley will be added, which is very possible when one considers the other flying/gliding characters in the game, like Pit, Meta Knight, and Charizard, who will be controlled by the Pokemon Trainer. Megaman wouldn’t be out of place. Sega actually stated that they wanted Sonic in Brawl, and that could very well happen; they’ve already got a Mario & Sonic Olympics game on the Wii.

Whatever happens, prepare to be impressed. Only two more months before Smash Bros. Brawl is released!

An MMO for Wii

I know for a fact that there are many people out there who would like to see a Massively Multiplayer game on the Wii. But will it happen? Chances are, it will. Recently, there was an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America, during which he said, “The Wii certainly has enough power to drive an MMO and make it totally interactive. Are we as a first-party looking at it? Not so far, but are we encouraging other developers to look into this? Absolutely. We believe with the nunchuk and Wii Remote it could be a fantastic MMO. There’s nothing from a pure MMO standpoint in the pipeline but I have spoken with a handful of developers and it’s something they’re intrigued with.” There have been many rumors already, such as the rumor that Square Enix is working on a Mana MMO, (which I believe could be true) along with Miyamoto being behind an MMORPG that’s being worked on right now. Whatever the rumors, it’s very possible that soon we could be seeing MMO efforts from 3rd party developers, and perhaps from Nintendo themselves.

Expect more news on this in the future.

Where is Metroid Dread?

Metroid Dread was first announced in the June 2005 issue of Game Informer. It was to be a 2d side-scrolling adventure for the DS, supposedly following the events of the Gameboy Advance’s Metroid Fusion. Later in the year, IGN reported that Metroid Dread was deep in development. At this time, Nintendo had neither confirmed or denied the game’s existence. A month later, the Nintendo-Next website reported that the project had been canceled, but I’ve yet to discover just how they came up with that conclusion. In any case, people didn’t believe them, and continued to look forward to the game for the next two years. On September 2007 Nintendo denied the existence of Metroid Dread, quote, “Nintendo is not making the 2d Metroid at this point in time.” So, where is Metroid Dread? Stick with me here.

Just recently I got Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Around ten hours into the game, in a space pirate’s Metroid containment area, I scanned two files that were side by side. The first one, when scanned, said something about the space pirates’ failed attempts at turning Metroids into a weapon source. The second one said, “Experiment status report update: Metroid project ‘Dread’ is nearing final stages of completion”. What does this mean? Because of the way Metroid Prime 3 ended, I don’t think it will be the last Metroid game on the Wii. At this point, chances are Metroid Dread, or some form of it, will be released on the Wii. However, if they really do plan to release it on the DS, chances are we won’t see it for a very long time.

Why I Started This… Thing

I like Videogames. And I like to write. And I like to talk about my wonderful self. So, it seemed like a good idea. What am I going to do with this site? Well, I’m going I’m going to write about games. One of my favorite things to do is look at what game developers have done, and estimate what their next move might be. You’d be surprised how accurate you can get, it’s almost scary. Besides that, I’d like to tell people what’s going on, and voice my opinions on it. Look forward to it!

Welcome

Hi. For newcomers, perhaps you should know that the contents of this site are based on and inspired by two very important things. Videogames, and of course, Me. And I’m sure that that piece of news will be very exciting for many, because, after all, if it were only about Videogames, things might start to get boring after a while. That being said, rest assured that the inclusion of the details of Me will make for some very interesting posts in the very near future.
